Our Story

Our story is founded in our name.

Morandin Wines is home to Sangreal Estate Vineyard, a family-owned vineyard and craft winery that produces small batch estate-grown & bottled wine in the traditional olde world Burgundian style emphasizing vintage year and single varietals, while proudly expressing the unique terroir of single vineyards.

In olde French, Sangreal has two meanings:

  • Sang Real – Royal Blood in connection with Prince Edward County
  • San Greal – Holy Grail in the context of Pinot Noir, the Holy Grail of wine

About Us

Christian Morandin’s family comes from the Veneto region of Italy, where the tradition of winemaking has been passed down from one generation to the next.

His wife's family roots are deeply entrenched in Prince Edward County, beginning with Jacob Wannamaker, her mother’s ancestor born in Rednersville in 1798. After attending her family reunion in Ameliasburg, we decided to move to Prince Edward County.

Everything Happens in Three's

We bid on 3 properties over 3 years before purchasing 33 acres on highway 33 in 2009. During the first season, we planted 3 acres with 33 rows of 3 varietals including Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. In our 3rd season, we planted more Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. That same year, we harvested 3 tonnes of grapes from each of the 3 originally planted varietals.

In our 9th season, we opened our doors to the public, offering 3 estate grown wines including:

  • County Pinot Noir
  • County Chardonnay
  • County Pinot Gris

These and other wines are available at the winery and fine establishments, including select LCBO stores.

Cheers!
